AUTHORITIES STEPPING UP INTERSTATE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

On Friday, December 11th,  beginning at 7:00PM  and continuing until 3:00AM, Saturday,  December 12th, Summit County Sheriff Deputies, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Police Officers from Akron, Stow, Boston Heights and Richfield jurisdictions will be targeting offenders for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, aggressive driving and seat belt violations.

The I-77 and Rt. 8 Multi-County Corridor Enforcement Project will cover Summit County north through Cuyahoga County and south through Stark County and into Tuscarawas County.

In those four counties,  between the years of 2006 and 2009, there were thirteen (13) alcohol related fatalities on I-77.   Six (6) of those fatalities occurring on I-77 were in Summit County and two (2) more occurred on Route 8 during the same time period.

Also on Friday, December 11th, as part of this project, the Summit County OMVI Task Force will be setting up a OMVI Check Point in the City of Green, located on S.R. 241, , just south of I-77,  near Boettler Road.  Hours of operation will be 10:00PM Friday through 3:00AM Saturday.

Organized and paid through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, the effort is focused on I-77 and Rt. 8 because of the amount of fatal crashes and injury accidents on those routes over the last three years during the holiday season of Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
