  1. How do I get to the Jail? (DIRECTIONS)
    The Summit County Jail is located between South Street and Crosier Street off the Grant Street/Wolf Ledges exit of Rt. 76  in Akron, Ohio.  The address is 205 East Crosier Street, Akron, Ohio 44311. Jail Map
  2. Can an inmate call me from the jail?
    Yes.  Inmates generally have access to a phone from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day.  We have a special jail phone system, and all calls are collect unless inmate sets up a debit telephone account.   Unless inmate uses the debit account, the call will be billed to the person receiving the call.

    To receive inmate collect calls on a cellular phone, you must first setup a pre-paid account through our phone service vendor ICS Solutions at 1-888-506-8407 or on the web at www.icsolutions.com 
  3. You can also set up a debit phone account for an inmate. Once the payment is received from his commissary account or from outside deposits, the inmate may call any allowed telephone number using these funds.
  4. What if I am receiving unwanted calls from an inmate?
    Inmate calls from the jail are collect calls and you can simply refuse to accept the calls. To refuse to accept a call, just hang up. 

    If you continue to receive unwanted calls you can have your phone number blocked in the jail phone system. To block this and all future jail calls, when asked to accept the call, just press 9.  If you do you will not be able to receive any inmate phone calls from the jail or any other facility also using our phone service vendor, ICS Solutions at 1-888-506-8407.

  5. Who can I contact in regards to billing questions, pre-paid phone issues or other phone problems related to inmate phone calls?
    You can contact ICS Solutions at 1-888-506-8407 or on the web at www.icsolutions.com for information related to those issues.
  6. When is visitation?
    Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.;   No visitation on Saturday and Sunday or holidays

  7. How do I visit an inmate?
    An inmate must request visitation two business days in advance.  Please call Inmate Services at 330-643-2177 to verify if a visit has been scheduled.  Inmates receive only one visit per week.
  8. ALL VISITORS MUST ARRIVE 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED VISITATION TIME OR WILL BE DENIED VISITATION.
  9. What do I need to visit an inmate, and do I need identification for a minor child?
    You must have a valid I.D.  Any minor under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  They must have the minor child’s birth certificate or guardianship papers.
  10. How long will I be able to visit?
    Visitation are approximately one hour long and begin on the hour and end on the hour.
  11. Is there a dress code to visit an inmate?
    Yes.  Inmate Services may restrict visitation based on inappropriate dress. See General Visiting Instructions for appropriate clothing.
  12. Can a clergy member visit an inmate?
    Yes.   Clergy may visit unscheduled Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.  No weekend visitation.   Clergy must show clergy identification and have a valid state I.D.

  14. Can I leave a message for an inmate?
    We do not deliver messages to the inmates.  If you have a verifiable emergency, please call 330-643-2177.
  15. Do you accept mail for inmates?
    Yes.  It must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service.  We will not accept any letters at the jail for inmates.  All letters must go through the U.S. Postal Service.
  16. What is the address to write to an inmate?
    Summit County Jail, c/o inmate’s Name, 205 East Crosier Street, Akron, Ohio 44311.
  17. Can inmates purchase commissary, and when?
    Yes.  Inmates may purchase commissary two times a week by housing location.   Units 2, 4, and 5:  Monday and Wednesday.  Units 1, 3, 6 and Core:  Tuesday and Thursday, EXCEPT ON DESIGNATED HOLIDAYS
  18. Can inmates with no money purchase commissary?
    No.  Inmates who do not have money may request an indigent kit.  Indigent kits are hygiene items delivered every Wednesday.  If an inmate has been in the facility for longer than ten days with no funds, they may request underwear, socks, shirts, and bras.

  20. What items can I bring to an inmate?
    We only accept a Bible or other religious equivalent and glasses.
  21. When can I drop off money for an inmate?
    Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  22. How much money can I put in an inmate’s account?
    Any amount is acceptable, but you must present a valid I.D.
  23. Do you accept personal checks?
    No.  We only accept cash or money orders, and you must present a valid I.D. when dropping them off.  Money orders may also be sent by mail.
  24. Do you accept court clothes for an inmate?
    Yes.  We will accept court clothes for an inmate if they have been indicted by the Grand Jury and will be having a trial.

  26. What programs are available to inmates?
    Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Bible studies, chapel services, chemical dependency treatment and life skills classes.
  27. How many times can an inmate release money to another person?
    Twice a month.
  28. Can an inmate release his/her property to me?
    Yes.  Inmates can release property to anyone they wish.  However, we will not deliver a message to an inmate requesting they prepare a property release.
  29. Note: Drivers License, Social Security card, Direct Express card, Direction card and other Identification will not be released.  
  30. If I need to find out a court date for an inmate, what should I do?
    Contact the clerk’s office of the court jurisdiction that is hearing the case.

  33. How do I pay a bond?
    All bonds must be paid at the clerk’s office of the appropriate court.   The Summit County Jail does not accept money for any bonds.

  34. Are there certain hours when inmates are released?
    No.  We release inmates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  35. How long does it take for an inmate to be released?
    If an inmate appears in court in the morning, we will receive the release paperwork in mid-afternoon.  Once we have received a release at the jail, the inmate should be released within two to three hours.
  36. When will my relative go to prison?
    Details of prisoner transports are not given out to the public.  Generally, a sentenced prisoner will be transported to prison within ten days of sentencing.
  37. How do I find out if I have a warrant for my arrest?
    Contact the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division at (330) 643-2108, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
