As noted in Lieutenant David Whiddon’s letter, the Akron Police Department is extremely appreciative of your assistance with a recent investigation in which a 21 year old female was brutally attacked and left for dead in the region of Summit Lake. In interviewing the victim, it was discovered that the suspect responsible for this heinous crime had been in jail and, in fact, was just released the previous Friday before the attack occurred. Even though you were off duty when contacted by Detective Bertina King of the Akron Police Department, you immediately went to your office to check the records. Thanks to your expertise, the suspect was identified and it was confirmed through Detective King’s investigation that he definitely was the assailant. He was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Rape, Kidnapping and Aggravated Robbery and is back in jail. Your unselfish efforts to assist in resolving this case reflect commitment and dedication to duty. I commend you for outstanding qualities exemplified in this perfect example of “seeing professionalism in action,” not just learning it from a textbook.” I am especially proud of the fact that you have demonstrated the special bond that exists between our law enforcement agencies, knowing that each of us will support, uphold and assist the other, whatever the need.”
