Daycare Owner Who Left Baby in Car Pleads No Contest

(January 18, 2012… Akron) … Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Lisa Scott, 43, of Hayden Avenue in Akron, entered a plea of no contest to a third-degree felony charge of Involuntary Manslaughter.

On September 2, 2011, Scott inadvertently left one-year-old Aolani McCray in the third-row seat of an SUV for hours while she and the other children in her care visited with her mother. The temperature that day was in the 90s. McCray died later that day at Akron Children’s Hospital.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for everyone involved,” said Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. “We accepted Ms. Scott’s plea in accordance with the wishes of the victim’s parents, who are showing tremendous compassion in the face of a very emotionally difficult situation.”

Judge Tom Parker immediately sentenced Scott to five years of community control and 200 hours of community service. Scott is barred from providing any sort of childcare while under community control and must undergo a mental health screening. If Scott violates the terms of her community control, she will spend three years in prison.
