Prosecutor Walsh Announces 2012 Calendar Winners

Hyre CLC student wins grand prize, will be featured on calendar cover

AKRON, OHIO – November 4, 2011 – On Wednesday, November 2, Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh announced the winners of the 2012 Safety Kids Calendar contest at an awards ceremony at the Akron-Summit Library. Of the 1,431 posters submitted, Hyre Middle School student Tanner Baker’s entry was chosen as the grand prize winner. Baker’s poster, which focuses on gun safety, will be on the cover of the 2012 Safety Kids calendar.

Prosecutor Walsh and emcees Tim Daugherty and Christi Nichols from WONE-FM presented the 48 winners with congratulatory certificates and gift cards in front of a packed audience of family, friends, teachers and contest judges. The evening started with the presentation of the flag by the Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard and an a cappella rendition of the national anthem by Miller South students Jonathan Sommer, Juliette Streeter and Josephine Wright.

“I am always impressed by the posters submitted for our Safety Kids Calendar, and it is an honor to be able to recognize the creativity, enthusiasm and hard work exhibited by these students” said Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh. “I’d like to congratulate all of the students who submitted a poster, as well as our judges, who had an extremely difficult task of selecting winners.
