Brown
Guilty on Drug Charges
(November 22, 2011… Akron) … Summit County
Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh
announced today that
a jury found Melton Brown, 34, of Romig Road in Akron, guilty of Possession of
Cocaine, a fourth-degree felony; Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a fifth-degree
felony; Possession of Heroin, a fourth-degree felony; Trafficking in Cocaine, a
fourth-degree felony; and Trafficking in Heroin, a fourth-degree felony. All
charges included a $650 forfeiture specification.
While arresting a
prostitute outside a house on E. Buchtel Avenue in
Akron
on July 12, Akron
police officers noticed Brown sitting alone on the front porch railing of the
home. They saw Brown move his hand behind the railing and then heard multiple
items hit the ground. As soon as the items hit the ground, Brown quickly left
the porch and entered the house. The officers found three plastic baggies on the
ground directly behind where Brown had been sitting. The baggies had clearly
just landed on the ground because they were warm, dry and free of any dirt.
While searching Brown during his arrest, officers found $650 on him, mostly in
$20 increments.
Judge Elinore
Stormer will sentence Brown at 1:30 p.m. on November 30.
