Juvenile Court Receives Federal Reimbursement

Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio announced today that the Court received $41,086.24 in additional funds during calendar year 2006 through its participation in the federal government’s Title IV-E program.  This program provides partial reimbursement to the Court for probation activities designed to safely maintain delinquent youth in their own homes and for the cost of placement when that is not possible.

A portion of these funds was used to implement random-moment time studies necessary to make the federal claim.  Additional uses will fund Court programming in the areas of community supervision, vocational readiness, Teen Court, sex offender treatment, substance abuse programming and truancy prevention.  With the continued decline in state funding, acquisition of these funds was critical to maintain current probation services.

“This funding will allow the Court to continue to provide specialized programming and placement,” said Judge Teodosio. “It was very gratifying to be informed by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services that it would be forwarding the reimbursement. The decision to access these services is based solely on what actions are in the best interests of the children the Court serves.”

The Court’s agreement with ODJFS requires the public release of this IV-E information annually.
