Summit County Veterans Service Commission to Host Open House Celebration, Construction of New Building Complete

On Saturday, September 12, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Summit County Veterans Service Commission (VSC) will host an Open House Celebration to mark the opening of their new, $2.2 million facility located on E. Waterloo Road in Akron. This event is free and open to the public.

County Executive Russell M. Pry commissioned the construction of a new VSC building in 2007. The county Veterans Service Commission had been operating out of an old, residential home located on Park Avenue in Akron. The facility lacked sufficient office space, parking and was not fully handicap accessible.

The new, 16,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility is handicap accessible and is equipped with: 25 offices, a multipurpose room, a Veterans Learning Center and a 90 space parking lot.

The Veterans Service Commission will also host a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, September 11th at 2 p.m. for those closely involved in the capital improvement project. County Executive Pry will take part in the celebration, along with VSC Executive Director George Baker and VSC Commissioner Michael Stith.

The new Summit County Veterans Service Commission is located at 1060 E. Waterloo Road and additional parking for the open house will be available across the street from the facility.
