Executive Russ Pry to Sponsor Skywarn Tornado Spotter Training Course, Severe Weather Awareness Week


On Monday, March 23, 2009, at 6 p.m., Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will be observing Severe Weather Awareness Week (March 22-28) by offering a Skywarn Tornado Spotter training course at the Summit County Chapter of the American Red Cross, First Energy Room, located at 501 West Market Street in Akron. The event is free and open to the public.

Gary Garnet, a warning and coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service, will be facilitating the course. Upon completion of the training, participants will be given the opportunity to become an official Skywarn Tornado Spotter.

Skywarn Tornado Spotter training is geared toward educating professionals in the following industries: custodial arts, education, health care, media and public safety.
