Making a Difference… Human Service Forum Slated
On Friday, October 16, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Summit County
Executive Russell M. Pry and the Summit County Social Services Advisory
Board (SSAB) will host the 6th annual Making a Difference… Human Service
Forum at the Akron Urban League, located at 440 Vernon Odom Boulevard in
Akron.
The purpose of the forum is to inform area health and social service
professionals of the current programs and initiatives being offered
throughout the Greater Summit County community.
The event will begin with registration, a continental breakfast and a
plenary address by Executive Pry on the future of the Summit 2010: A
Quality of Life Project. Breakout sessions will follow and focus on the
topics of: alternatives to incarceration, kinship care, the Ohio Benefit
Bank and poverty. Continuing education credits will be made available
for professionals in the fields of education, law, nursing and social
work.
During the luncheon, Making a Difference… Human Service Awards will be
presented to those who have demonstrated excellence in the provisions of
health and/or social services. Upon completion of the award
presentations, former cable television talk show host, acclaimed author
and Kent State alumna, Dr. Bertice Perry will deliver a keynote
presentation.
