On Friday, October 16, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry and the Summit County Social Services Advisory Board (SSAB) will host the 6th annual Making a Difference… Human Service Forum at the Akron Urban League, located at 440 Vernon Odom Boulevard in Akron.

The purpose of the forum is to inform area health and social service professionals of the current programs and initiatives being offered throughout the Greater Summit County community.

The event will begin with registration, a continental breakfast and a plenary address by Executive Pry on the future of the Summit 2010: A Quality of Life Project. Breakout sessions will follow and focus on the topics of: alternatives to incarceration, kinship care, the Ohio Benefit Bank and poverty. Continuing education credits will be made available for professionals in the fields of education, law, nursing and social work.

During the luncheon, Making a Difference… Human Service Awards will be presented to those who have demonstrated excellence in the provisions of health and/or social services. Upon completion of the award presentations, former cable television talk show host, acclaimed author and Kent State alumna, Dr. Bertice Perry will deliver a keynote presentation.
