Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry Donates Surplus Computers to Local Head Start Program

On Thursday, March 12, 2009, Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry donated eight surplus computer units, monitors and keyboards to Head Start, a program that focuses on promoting healthy pre-natal outcomes for pregnant women, enhancing the development of very young children, promoting healthy family functioning and promoting school readiness by boosting the social and cognitive development of children and families.

The computers once belonged to employees within the Summit County Fiscal Office, Division of Management Information Systems (MIS).

“The systems are five years old and are in good condition,” said Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry. “The items were declared surplus because they are considered obsolete by MIS standards.”

Head Start is one of many programs being operated by Akron Summit Community Action, Inc., a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to providing a wide range of diverse and comprehensive services that address the needs of low-income citizens of Summit County.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff of the Akron Summit Community Action, Inc., we offer sincere thanks and appreciation to Executive Pry for his generous contribution of computer units,” said President and CEO of the Akron Summit Community Action, Inc. Malcolm J. Costa.

As County Executive, Russell M. Pry has the authority to donate the supplies to non-profit organizations in need. Since being named to the position, Pry has donated materials to the following non-profit community organizations: Arlington Housing Options Plus Elderly Services (AHOPES), Autism Society of America, Greater Akron Chamber, Heaven Can Wait, Info Line, Pregnancy Care of Summit County, Springfield Township Youth Sports Council, St. Frances de Sales School, Springfield Local School District and many more.

Non-profit organizations interested in obtaining government surplus equipment are being asked to call 330-643-2557, or by clicking on http://www.co.summit.oh.us/executive/purchaseSurplusEquip.htm.
