Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry Presents 2009-2014 Capital Improvement Program To County Council

On Monday, February 9, 2009, Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry presented the 2009-2014 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to Summit County Council.

The Summit County Charter requires the County Executive to annually submit a Capital Improvement Program to County Council. The document must include a detailed capital improvement plan proposed for the current fiscal year, along with the estimated cost of each item or project and the proposed method of financing. Planned capital improvements for the succeeding five years must also be outlined.

“The program reflects priorities that I believe to be crucial to the success and well being of the citizens of Summit County, especially in light of the impact of the current global economic recession,” stated Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry. “These priorities include an emphasis on investments in economic development, job creation and the preservation of good paying jobs.”

Executive Pry’s fifty-page proposal contains detailed plans to fiscally support the following most noteworthy capital improvement projects:

  • Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., World Headquarters, Martha Avenue Corridor
  • Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire Co., Technical Center
  • Expansion of the Summit County sewer system in southern Summit County
  • A Canal Corridor and Greenway Grant to the Ohio & Erie Canal Coalition

In addition to the undertakings listed above, upgrades to bridges, buildings, equipment, roads, technologies and water & sewer lines are also listed in the document.

“My administration will be closely monitoring local and national economic conditions to ensure we take advantage of every opportunity to bring funding dollars to our community,” added Pry. “I am looking forward to working with County Council, officeholders, local community leaders and businesses to implement this six-year program for the betterment of our community.”
