Executive Pry Celebrates First Anniversary of the Economic
Development Task Force
Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry today celebrated the first
anniversary of his Economic Development Task Force and applauded the
team members for their successes and contributions toward economic
development in Summit County.
“In the past year, I have had the opportunity to work on negotiations
with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Bridgestone Firestone North
American Tire. LLC., and PPG Industries, Inc.,” said Summit County
Executive Russell M. Pry “The Summit County Economic Development Task
Force assisted with the success of keeping these companies and jobs in
Summit County.
Task Force initiatives also focused on small business services. In 2008,
using the resources of the Summit Business Partnership, the Task Force
targeted businesses located in townships with 25 or fewer employees.
During a difficult period for the regional economy, these retention
visits helped address emerging concerns of 31 businesses.
Throughout Summit County, the Task Force addressed chambers of commerce,
trade organizations, and hosted economic development forums in an effort
to reach out to area businesses.
“Increasing our visibility and participation in local communities helps
spread awareness of Summit County’s expertise and assets,” said Connie
Krauss, Director of Community and Economic Development. “Awareness is a
critical component of the group’s outreach strategy as we move forward
in the coming years.”
The Task Force consists of persons with government and private sector
experience, including expertise in marketing, financing, communications,
international and domestic business development, planning, and research
analysis. Task Force members will continue to pursue economic
development opportunities and focus in on the workforce development
needs of area companies in 2009.
