Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry Raises Funds for Hospice of VNS,
Program Generates Over $10,000
On Tuesday, May 20, 2008, Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry hosted
a Change for Change after work, networking gathering to benefit Hospice
of Visiting Nurse Service. The event was held at Rockne’s Pub, located
at 7 Merriman Road in Akron, and raised $1,094 in tips and donations.
Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service works to alleviate suffering, engender
hope, promote living and facilitate grieving among patients with serious
or life-limiting illnesses, their families and their communities.
“Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service provides a unique and caring program
for terminally ill patients and their families,” said Summit County
Executive Russell M. Pry. “I am very pleased that we were able to raise
money for an organization that provides such supportive care to
citizens.”
Change for Change is a monthly networking program. All of the tips
earned, by the Rockne’s Pub serving staff, are donated to a
predetermined charity and/or cause. Throughout the past ten months, the
program has generated $10,725.93 to assist the following community
organizations in need:
-
Akron Canton
Regional Food Bank ($1,100)
-

Summit County ($700)
-
Susan G. Komen

“I would like
to thank Christopher Hamad for volunteering his eatery and pub to serve
as the program’s host restaurant,” added Pry. “Without his support none
of this would have been possible.”
In mid-May, the Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau recognized
Hamad’s involvement in the Change for Change program, and his many other
contributions to the community, by naming him the 2008 Hospitality
Person of the Year.
