Summit County Department of Animal Control To Implement Spay-and-Neuter Services Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy’s Department of Animal Control will soon be offering in-house spay-and-neuter services to animals being adopted through the County of Summit Animal Control facility, located at 460 E. North Street in Akron. Upon implementation of this service, the cost to adopt a dog fully treated by the County of Summit will be $90; while, the cost to adopt a cat fully treated will be $57. Full treatment includes: a license (if necessary), shots, spay-and-neuter operations and de-flea & de-worm services. “Spay and neutering is an important step towards stopping the addition of unwanted and uncared for animals in Summit County. If we can provide this service to our citizens before the animals leave our facility, we may stop additional strays,” said Summit County Animal Control Manager Christine Fatheree. “We hope to implement this new service by early Summer 2007.” In August 2006, an evaluation report issued by the National Animal Control Association (NACA) addressed the critical need for the County of Summit to offer spay-and-neuter services for all animals being adopted out of the facility. “My administration has made the recommendations of the NACA a top priority,” said Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy. “The implementation of spay-and-neuter services at the county animal control facility is a significant accomplishment.” For more information on the services being offered by the Summit County Department of Animal Control, dial 330-643-2845, or click on http://www.co.summit.oh.us/executive/animalcontrol.htm . |
