Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry’s Room with a View Exhibit Features New Artists

Today, September 4, 2007, Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry opened his eighth floor Executive conference room to an exhibition program that features original artwork by Summit County artists.

The exhibition, called Room with a View, is an ongoing program that celebrates and recognizes local artists and gives their work exposure in a public setting. This is the 15th exhibit in the series.

For the next four months, an assorted collection of works from the following artists will be on display in the Ohio Building, 175 South Main Street in downtown Akron:

  • Pamela Z. Daum, from Hudson, specializes in alternative methods of art, particularly Polaroid camera techniques. The photographs featured in the exhibit represent images from a series of Polaroid SX-70 manipulations.
  • Rae Hallstrom, a Mogadore resident, features photographs fused with haiku poems that she describes as Ameriku.
  • John W. Murphy, of Akron, is a painter who retired from Ohio Bell in 1999. His seasonal themed works are acrylic paint on birch plywood.
  • Regina H. Reid resides in Streetsboro and refined her talent through formal education and hands on experience. She creates: drawings, paintings, photographs and print works. The paintings she submitted feature an African theme.
  • Kristen Smith is a Cuyahoga Falls resident who enjoys using various media and techniques, including painting, pottery and photography.
  • Amy E. Young of Akron, is a freelance artist that focuses her talent on creating murals, paintings, portraits and extensive commission work. In the exhibit, Young displays works with oil on canvas, watercolor, conte crayon and multimedia on canvas.

“The artists participating in this rotation showcase the immense artistic talent that exists in Summit County,” said Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry. “They have collectively produced a diverse and exceptional exhibit of paintings and photographs.”

The first Room with a View opened in January 2003. Since its opening, a total of 65 Summit County artists have participated in this program, 54 Summit County citizens and 11 Summit County government employees.
