County of Summit-City of Akron Harvest for Hunger Challenge Ends In Tie

On June 12, 2007, the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank announced the results of the 2007 County of Summit-City of Akron Harvest for Hunger Challenge at the recognition ceremony held at Chenoweth Golf Course, located at 3087 Chenoweth Drive in Akron.

The County of Summit-City of Akron Harvest for Hunger Challenge has become an annual tradition with both sides competing to collect the most monetary and food donations to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. Events are held, food collection boxes are filled, and funds are collected throughout the month of March.

“The employees of Summit County are proud of the 50,000 meals we have made available to the Food Bank,” said James B. McCarthy, County of Summit Executive. “Although there was no clear winner, we all know the real winners of this friendly rivalry are the citizens in Summit County.”

In 2007, Summit County government employees donated $8541.00 and 2,812 pounds of food, which is the equivalent of 59,000 meals. Employees of the City of Akron donated $4500.00, which brought their contribution total to 31,500 meals.

The 2007 County of Summit-City of Akron Harvest for Hunger Competition was judged on a per capita basis. The Summit County government employees have won 9 out of the past 12 challenges.
