Executive James B. McCarthy Appoints New Richfield Township Trustees and Clerk

Summit County Executive James B. McCarthy today announced his recommendations in support of appointments to the new Richfield Township board of trustees and clerk positions, pending confirmation by Summit County Council. Shano Cica-Mraz, Laurie Peters-Gilmore, and David Wyatt are recommended to fill the three positions on the new Richfield Township board of trustees. Laurie Pinney is Mr. McCarthy’s recommendation for Township Clerk.

Ms. Cica-Mraz is currently serving her first term (ending December 31, 2003) as a trustee for the township as it was previously defined. She is a licensed real estate agent with Smythe, Cramer Company. Ms. Peters-Gilmore was elected Township Trustee in 2001, after serving as Richfield Township’s Administrator. Among the applicants, Ms. Cica-Mraz and Ms. Peters-Gilmore were the top vote getters with unincorporated area voters in prior township trustee elections. Mr. Wyatt served Richfield as a trustee from 1976 to 1989. He is a life-long resident, and is the retired Assistant Vice President of Marsh USA Inc.

Ms. Pinney, the Clerk appointee, currently serves as the Zoning Inspector for Richfield Township. She brings a familiarity with the Clerk’s duties, Richfield Township systems, policies, and procedures to the position.  She holds both a bachelors and masters degree in business administration.

A recent court ruling by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge John Adams in favor of separating the unincorporated portion of Richfield Township from Richfield Village – which dismantles the current board of trustees and township clerk/treasurer positions – and erecting a new Richfield Township, mandated the appointments.

The appointed trustees for the new township will serve until December 31, 2003; the clerk appointee will serve until March 31, 2004. The positions will be up for election this November, with two trustees to be elected to serve two-year terms (January 1, 2004 through December 21, 2005) and one trustee to be elected to a four-year term (January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2007). The clerk will be elected to a four-year term (April 1, 2004 through March 31, 2008).
