A Change in Plans -
Remove the Dam |
While modifying the dam, Kenmore found a rock ledge at the
dam. OEPA, DOES, and the City of Munroe Falls agreed to
removed the dam completely, allowing the river to flow
freely and exposing a river feature that had been hidden for
over 100 years.

In mid-late October, 2005,
the remaining dam blocks were removed from the south side.
The coffer dam diverting the water to the north side was
removed. For the first time in over 100 years, the river
flowed freely through Munroe Falls. |

Dam Site - 2008 |
An abutment on the north side
has been reconstructed, providing an overlook of the newly
restored river. The new dam site park includes an
amphitheater constructed with dam blocks, an access path,
signs depicting the history of the dam, and plantings. The
dam site has become an attractive river access point, a
community centerpiece, where people come to enjoy the river.
