HOUSING REHABILITATION PROGRAM

Summit County receives funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the CDBG and HOME programs to provide a number of housing-oriented programs for low-to-moderate income households living within Summit County, but outside the Cities of Akron, Barberton or Cuyahoga Falls.

Minor Repairs and Housing Rehabilitation
The Summit County Housing Rehabilitation Program provides 0% and 4% interest loans to eligible homeowners in order to maintain decent, safe and sanitary conditions. Services include emergency repairs, minor rehabilitation and moderate rehabilitation.

DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE / FIRST HOME, FIRST LOAN PROGRAM
Through the First Home, First Loan program, the County will provide a $3 to $1 match to assist eligible first-time home buyers with their down payment and closing costs. A maximum of $14,997 is available as a 0% deferred interest loan.

CHDO / CDC'S
HOME Investment Partnerships Program
To be eligible for HOME funds, local non-profit organizations must conduct activities that build or rehabilitate affordable housing for rent or homeownership or provide direct rental or homeownership assistance to low-to-moderate income people (those whose total, annual, gross household income is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income). Projects located within the Cities of Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls, are not eligible.

Eligible applicants include local non-profit organizations. Preference will be given to those agencies that meet the qualifications to be certified as CHDO’s (Community Housing Development Organizations), although proposals from non-CHDO agencies will be accepted.
