Emergency Management Agency working together for a safer Summit County

Blizzards, chemical spills and tornadoes are just a few of the hazards that can strike our community with little or no warning. The question is not if, but when, the next disaster will strike. Families and businesses need to be prepared to take responsibility for their own safety during a disaster by:

  • Create an emergency plan for all disasters; fire, tornado, chemical spill, etc.
  • Practice emergency drills.
  • Prepare an emergency kit with three days worth of supplies.
  • Check emergency equipment regularly.

Most emergencies are handled at the local level. However, when extra assistance and resources are needed, The Emergency Management Agency is ready to respond. Services or resources may be requested in the following four circumstances:

  • When an emergency exceeds local capabilities and/or resources.
  • If two or more political subdivisions are affected by an emergency.
  • When requested by the incident commander or an elected official.
  • Anytime an emergency involves 25 or more victims, i.e. a mass casualty incident.
