This multimedia site includes an interactive timeline that takes visitors from the origins of humankind on the African Continent to modern day Africa. This web site taps into the ever-growing National Digital Library and provides access to unique and hard to find Black History items. Visitors can access the vast collection of papers from 19th century abolitionist Frederick Douglass; or view more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 photographs of former slaves. Another link explores Baseball, the Color Line and Jackie Robinson.

Using the vast Britannica database this web site brings together a wide range of resources relating to Black History. Along with some special features, the site provides useful alphabetical listings of Biographies of historic and famous African Americans, and of Events and Institutions in the American Black Experience.

The companion web site to the PBS Series “Africans in America” focuses on slavery in America.  The site gives visitors access to the extensive information and resources used in each of the four parts of the series. A detailed Teacher’s Guide to using the information from the series is also provided.

 

Culture and Change: Black History In America

This site is designed for students and teachers and includes a feature on Black Inventors. Along with a variety of teaching resources this site also features an interactive timeline. Macromedia Flash player is required to use the timeline. It can be downloaded through the site. 
 

 

The Underground Railroad

The primary feature of this site is an interactive journey along The Underground Railroad. Visitors have to make a variety of choices as they take on the role of a slave following The Underground Railroad north. The site also features a grade specific teacher’s guide and links to other Black History related sites.

Sojourner Truth Narrative
First published in 1850, this memoir, recounts the struggles of this African-American abolitionist and champion of women's rights. Sojourner Truth tells of her life in slavery, her self-liberation, and her travels across America. In 1851 Sojourner Truth addressed the Women’s Convention in Akron, on High Street, and delivered her famous “Ain’t I A Woman?” speech.
