John N. Schmidt represents the
County of Summit’s Second District on County Council and
currently serves as Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Vice-Chair
of the Long-Term Planning Committees, and
is also on the Finance, Health &
Human Services, Planning and Economic Development, and Personnel & Intergovernmental
committees. Mr. Schmidt's District
includes most of Cuyahoga Falls, the City of Munroe Falls,
and portions of Akron including East Akron, Goodyear Heights
& North Hill.
John has
dedicated much of his adult life to serving the public in
various roles, including having served 20 years as a
Cuyahoga Falls City Council member. Mr. Schmidt also has
prior service to the county having worked on the County
Executive’s staff for thirteen years and served as Deputy
Director for the Board of Elections.
A leader in the
Community, John has held many leadership roles and is a
Veteran of the United States Navy Reserve (Seabees), a past
President of the Cuyahoga Falls City Council and a past
President of the Cuyahoga Falls Democratic Club. Mr. Schmidt
had the distinct honor to be included on the American
Council of Young Political Leaders-Delegation to
Poland/Hungary in 1993. Currently Mr. Schmidt serves
on the Board of Directors of the Schnee
Learning Center.
Mr. Schmidt
holds his Master of Arts in Teaching from Kent State
University and a B.S. in Political Science/Criminal Justice
from The University of Akron.
Councilman
Schmidt’s community involvement continues outside the public
service realm as he carries membership in the Knights of
Columbus; Ancient Order of Hibernians; Fraternal Order of
Police Associates; American Red Cross, Government Liaison,
Hurricane Katrina Relief; Seabee Historical Society; Summit
County Democratic Central Committee; and the Democratic
Leadership Council (DLC). In 2010, he was elected Democratic
State Central Committeeman for the 27th Senate District of
Ohio. John also holds membership in the Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, as a charter member, and is
a member of WVIZ/PBS. Mr. Schmidt is a Charter Member of St.
Eugene’s Church.
Mr. Schmidt’s
past involvement in community organizations include
membership in Kiwanis, Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce,
Stow Chamber of Commerce, URW Local 9, Teamsters Local 24,
and the Akron Press Club. John is a past Co-Chair of the St.
Vincent DePaul Society and past volunteer with the Summit
County Juvenile Court Values Program. |
