Frank C. Comunale, who represents Summit County
Council District 4, serves as Vice President of the County
Council. Mr. Comunale also acts as Chair of the Public
Works Committee, and is on the Health and Human Services,
Personnel, and Planning and Economic Development
Committees.
Mr. Comunale is the former President of the Akron-Summit
County Public Library Board of Trustees, former President of
the First Friday Club of Greater Akron Board of Trustees,
former President of the Good Samaritan Hunger Center Board
of Trustees, and former First Vice Chairman of the Towpath
Credit Union Board of Directors.
Mr. Comunale served as the Chair of the 2003 Campaign for
the United Way of Barberton and Southern Summit County. In
2008, he chaired the Alexis de
Tocqueville Society Campaign. Our United Way had the largest
increase in donations in the country that year.
He is a lifetime member of the Sierra Club and the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
He is an active member of St. Sebastian Parish, formerly serving as
Chairman of Parish Council, Stewardship Committee, and
currently serves as a Eucharistic Minister. Recently he
served as Treasurer of the Citizens Advisory Committee to
Summit County Children Services. There, Councilman Comunale
chaired two successful levy campaigns.
Mr. Comunale’s extensive community involvement also includes
serving as a member of the City of Akron Holocaust
Commemorative Committee, Our Lady of the Elms Sisters of St.
Dominic Foundation Board of Trustees, member of the Board of
Directors of the Wesley Temple Foundation, Inc., the Ohio
United Way Board of Trustees, former Board Member of
Stewart’s Caring Place, and a KSU Porthouse Theatre Action
Committee member. Mr. Comunale is also a Third Degree Knight
of Columbus member and a member of the Certified Grievance
Committee of the Akron Bar Association.
In April of 2010, Mr. Comunale was selected for membership
in Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor
Society, founded in 1914, and chartered at The University of
Akron in 1922.
Professionally, Mr. Comunale is a vice president with S.A.
Comunale, fire protection contractors, located in Barberton.
A resident of West Akron, Mr. Comunale is a graduate of
Firestone High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from
The University of Akron, where he served as President of his
senior class.
Councilman Comunale is the recipient of several prestigious awards
in recognition of his many achievements in community
service. In 2002 he received the Bishop William M. Cosgrove
Justice Award for Community Service. Additionally, in 2005,
Mr. Comunale received the Peter Bommarito Outstanding
Voluntary Achievement Award and United Way Distinguished
Service Award. He was honored with the Urban Lights Award
from The University of Akron’s Department of Public
Administration as well as a Shining Star Award from Summit
County Children Services in 2007. |
