The County of Summit Office of Consumer Affairs issues licenses for door-to-door solicitors, peddlers and canvassers who plan to solicit in the Village of Richfield, Northfield Center Township, Richfield Township, and Bath Township.

Who must be licensed?
Codified Ordinances of the County of Summit (Ohio), requires that solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers be licensed.  All applicants must be 18 years or older in order to apply.

Application for Solicitors, Peddlers and Canvassers License
 

What is the process?
The process includes completion of an application for solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers.  You will need to bring the application with you or complete one in-person at the Office of Consumer Affairs.  Also, have with you a government issued identification, proof of automobile insurance, and copy of the solicitation material to be provided to consumers.  

Licensing hours are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday.

After completing the application, you will be required to obtain, at your expense, a BCI background check at the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. 

There is a ten day waiting period before the license is issued.  Once your license has been approved, the Office of Consumer Affairs will contact you to pick up your license.  At that time, a $35 payment is due by money order or personal check and made payable to the County of Summit Office of Consumer Affairs.

 


Is there a penalty for failing to license?

Anyone engaged in soliciting without having first obtained a solicitors, peddlers and canvassers license with the County is subject to a civil penalty of $100-$500 each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. In addition, the County may seek additional relief through
the courts.
