Additional Charges Added to Maffei On 12/13/2011, James Maffei, age 52 of Coventry Township was arrested for kidnapping and booked into the Summit County Jail. Today, Maffei was charged with Felonious Assault on a Peace Office, a first degree felony. This charge stems from the round he fired at Sheriff’s Deputies on 12/13/2011. Sheriff’s Detectives received additional information that Maffei was producing methamphetamines (meth). After an investigation, a meth dump site was located at 3364 Cormany Road in Coventry Township. Meth lab waste was found on the Cormany Road property in a dumpster and in a box behind a shed. Some of the waste included empty fuel bottles, empty acid bottles and gas generators. It appeared to be the waste products of approximately 20 meth labs. Maffei is facing charges of Illegal Manufacture of Drugs, and Illegal Assembly or Possession of Chemicals for the Manufacture of Drugs. The above charges are usually 2nd and 3rd degree felonies, but because the meth waste was in close proximity to a school, the charges are 1st and 2nd degree felonies. Maffei is currently an inmate at the Summit County Jail. FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO INSPECTOR WILLIAM HOLLAND AT 330-204-6853. |
