Suicide at Summit County Jail

  On February 3^rd, 2012, shortly after midnight, an inmate at the Summit County Jail committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell. The inmate, Jesse Lee Spinks, was found hanging in his cell by a deputy. The Deputy entered the cell and called for assistance. Spinks was cut down and attempts were made to resuscitate him.

 Spinks, a 29 year old from Akron, was booked in to the jail on 12/04/2011 for Possession of Cocaine, Illegal Conveyance, Tampering with Evidence, and Disorderly Conduct. Spinks showed no sings of being suicidal when he was medically screened by the jail staff. Spinks was transported to Akron City Hospital by the Akron Fire Department. Spinks was pronounced dead at the hospital.

 The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the incident.
