OVERPASS ROCK-THROWING YOUTHS ENTER ADMISSIONS

Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio today accepted admissions from two youths each charged with four counts of vehicular vandalism. An admission is the Juvenile Court equivalent of a guilty plea.

The charges stem from an incident during the early morning hours of June 9th when the two youths, claiming boredom, tossed large rocks from an overpass onto the expressway, striking four cars and slightly injuring one of the passengers.

The youths, one a 15 year old sophomore at Ellet High School, the other a 14 year old 8th grader at Innes Middle School, spent nine days in detention before being released on house arrest. Today, the two stood before Judge Teodosio to hear the disposition of their case.

Judge Teodosio ordered them to spend 90 days in detention and suspended the time provided the youths adhere to the conditions of probation. She then placed them on indefinite probation with a first review scheduled after six months. Judge Teodosio ordered them to pay restitution up to $600 to each of the four victims, which will require the youths to work hundreds of hours of community service to earn the money to pay the victims through the Court’s Child Responsibility Program. They are to have no contact with the victims, however, they will be required to write letters of apology to each victim, which the Court would release to the victims should they choose to accept it. Each month of their probation, both must read a book and provide the Court a report each time. They must also submit a list of things they can do if they ever feel bored again. Judge Teodosio also released them from electronic monitoring.
