JUVENILE COURT PLAYS ROLE IN “ALL-AMERICA CITY” AWARD

Summit County Juvenile Court Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio was among the group of community leaders who traveled to Tampa, FL to present the City of Akron’s bid to be named an “All-America City.” Juvenile Court Detention Officer and Akron Ward 5 Councilman Ken Jones was also part of the delegation. The contingent, led by Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, learned on Friday evening that Akron was one of nine communities nationwide to receive the designation. It’s the third time Akron has received the honor, viewed as the Oscar for America’s cities.

“It was an interesting process, and in the end, it was well worth the effort,” said Judge Teodosio.

The delegation from Akron made a presentation before a 10-judge panel from the National Civic League. The panel was looking for a demonstration that a community sought and embraced collaborative projects in a variety of areas, including social and judicial programming.

In the city’s application for the award, the Court was noted for its nationally-recognized Crossroads Program as a model of collaboration with the community’s many social service agencies.

“I was very gratified to be invited to be part of the Akron presentation group,” said the Judge. “I think it shows that what we are doing at the Court and within the community is being viewed positively by Mayor Plusquellic and other community leaders.”
